Vacant seat case: Speaker shouldn’t have even been joined to suit – AG

The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has criticized Speaker Alban Bagbin's decision to hire personal lawyers in a Supreme Court case about four MPs facing seat vacancies after declaring independence.

Dame argues that as a public officer, the Attorney General’s office is responsible for representing Bagbin, as per the Constitution. He noted that Bagbin's inclusion as a defendant is unnecessary, as the AG alone should represent government interests.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court denied Bagbin’s attempt to reverse its suspension of his declaration, adjourning the case to November 11, with Bagbin instructed to file documents by November 6.
