It has emerged that Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central constituency Isaac Adongo is surrounded by an army of researchers and whistleblowers, a reason the young parliamentarian has become a thorn in the flesh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The vociferous legislator who is serving his first term in parliament has stood out and won the admiration of many particularly among the rank and file of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) due to his analysis and arguments on economic and financial issues.

In an interview on Citi TV’s Point of View monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Bolgatanga Central MP revealed his strength in argument stems from research work aided by a team.

“I work with a very strong team and so I have the support of a team that does very strong research work. So I have a group of people scattered all over the country who are supporting my work,” he told the host Bernard Avle.

Explaining the reasons for setting up the research team, he indicated that honouring his schedules as a Member of Parliament keeps him overly busy to carry out some independent research himself to support his arguments saying “Often some of the issues that come to you are so varied that you would need expertise from different group of people and you need to cultivate some of the expertise outside of the political party. It depends on how you are able to engage the technocrats and once you engage them and you have a very common ground for meaningful conversations, you would begin to green a lot of facts and a lot of expertise from them and see how you can leverage that in your work”.

Though a first-time Member of Parliament and Member of the Finance committee, Isaac Adongo shot to the limelight following his strong arguments most often supported with data both on the floor of parliament and on various media platforms resulting in what has been christened ‘Adongonomics’.

The MP’s unwavering criticism of the Vice President Dr Mahmudu Bawumia and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta over the period have positioned him in a better place to lead the minority’s argument on issues of the economy and finance.

This was manifested following his selection as the guest speaker at a public lecture organised by the opposition NDC in April 2019 on the theme “The state of the Ghanaian Economy; Myths and Truths”.

Former President John Dramani Mahama who doubles as the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress was seated on the front row of the parked auditorium gesturing in approval and fascination as Isaac Adongo took on the Nana Addo led government on the state of the economy and essentially razing down Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia’s claims on the economy during a town hall meeting organised at the behest of the economic management team.
