You’ve not shown leadership in fighting corruption - GII to Akufo-Addo

The Ghana Integrity Initiative has admonished President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to show leadership in the fight against corruption.

The anti-graft group believes the President has not shown enough commitment in fighting corruption.

The call comes following a survey conducted by CDD saying some 62% of respondents in their survey think the President lacks what it takes to protect the public purse and fight corruption.

Programs Director at the GII, Mary Adda, indicated that: “We should be able to protect them and let Ghanaians see that there are people of integrity and need to be protected. And when people do things that are despicable, that are in contravention of our laws, our leaders should be sanctioning, and we as the community should also be naming and shaming.”

She further noted, “somebody proposed that we should be naming streets after people that have been cited for some infractions to deter others from wanting to even engage. We should also ensure that our investigative bodies and also the processes of adjudication are also effective.”

“Leadership, commitment, and action are important when people are cited. The posturing of leadership and in this case I mean the President should show more leadership in actions rather than in words,” she added.
