BOSS Awards to honour the impacts of old student groups

Mobilizing Old Students for Educational Supports (MOSES) foundation has launched the Best Old Students School Award (BOSS) is an advocacy platform to promote old students’ leadership commitment to supporting development in their respective old schools.

According to organizers, the annual scheme is set to make a major difference in mobilizing the global old students’ front towards addressing infrastructural challenges in the 2nd cycle’s schools in Ghana.

Speaking to Mr. Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo, the president of MOSES foundation at the launch, he said, the award initiative is beyond a project; “indeed, it is an evolving development planning model which could become the case model for educational support across sub-Saharan Africa and regions of growing economies across the world.

He stated that “This underscores the presence of the NDPC here to explore the prospects of partnership and adoption to promote this development model. Let us also say it is a model response to the UN Sustainable Development Goal on education: The common denominator of the UN Sustainable Development Goals is Education and Ghana being the co-chair of the UNSDGs imposes a burden on Ghana to lead an innovative solution response model for Africa.”

Mr. Azongo says the target of the award is to mobilize a minimum of Gh Cedis 500,000 for all BOSS participating schools in the ensuing Awards Year. This to all intents and purposes an Old Student-Led-School Driven Development Model.

“The old-school has access to a mix of experts who could be assembled to assist the schools in the state of the art project designs & Development at no cost to the schools. Membership of the old student institution transcends life. Such is the potential of the institution of old studentship we are yet to explore, exploit and utilize as a complementary partner to sustainable educational delivery in the country."

The BOSS Ultimate Award is seeking to crown the Old Student Personality of the Year, the most outstanding individual old student contribution and leadership. This means that the Old Students Associations with their respective schools shall nominate candidates for the various categories: Old Student Personality of the Year at the School level, Year Group of the Year, Anniversary Year Group.

The School level nominees will then compete at the National Level to determine the National Award winners based on 70% voting and 30% Assessment by the BOSS eminent Panel of Judges based on records of support channeled through the Old students' fund.

The Maiden BOSS Awards would be held in November 2022. The completion date for entries for the award shall be between July - August 2022 with voting taking place between September and October to pave the way for the grand BOSS award in November 2022.

The launch which was held on Wednesday, August 18 at the Miklin Hotel, East Legon, was attended by a representative of the Education Ministry, the Director-General of National Development Commission, Dr. K.E. Mensah Abrampa, who also doubles as the Traditional Finance Minister of the Denkyira State, Nana Kwaakontan VI, and the rep of Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, CHASS) who doubles as the headmaster of Accra Academy and other Old Students executives.
