In response to the crisis, Ghana's educational sector faces due to myriad circumstances, CyberGhana, a humanitarian NGO, has launched a free Learning Management System called Common Emergency Campus (EM-Campus Anywhere) to provide an alternative resource for students.

“Schools in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa have not paid much attention to emergency preparedness options to deal with risks and emergency matters.

“Students in some parts of Africa, especially girls, are unable to attend classes at specific periods of the school calendar, due to cultural and social beliefs. These incidents have a negative impact on the quality of students who pass out of our schools. It is important for stakeholders to find ways to curb such situations,” Mr. Samuel Aduafo Owusu, Project Coordinator of CyberGhana said in an interview with this reporter.

He observed that it has become the practice for institutions to completely shut down schools, while others try learning how to use new technologies as ad hoc measures during a crisis.

It is in view of the above challenges that CyberGhana has developed a Common Emergency Campus (EM-Campus Anywhere) software to help students study from anywhere as long as they are connected to the internet.

The model of EM-Campus Anywhere is a course repository that enables schools anywhere to continue delivering teaching and learning sessions, particularly during crises.

The platform uses physical, virtual, and cloud-based technologies to deliver courseware. It also includes developing school emergency and communication plans and a learning management system for remote and hybrid teaching.

The facility sponsored by The Royal Academy of Engineering, (RAENG) and the Lloyd’s Register Foundation is ideal for Primary Schools, Junior High School (JHS), Senior High School (SHS), universities, and businesses owners who want to update their IT skills.

CyberGhana is encouraging students, teachers, and the public to take advantage of this virtual classroom facility to study at their own convenience remotely at no cost.
