Teachers at the Manya Krobo Senior High School (MAKROSEC) in the Eastern Region can now heave a sigh of relief as continuous efforts are made to address their accommodation needs on campus.

Management of the school is currently through a self-help initiative, putting up a 2-unit bungalow for the affected teachers to partially address the problem.
Funds for the completion of the house have however stalled, forcing school authorities to fall on benevolent organizations, philanthropists, and other individuals for assistance to bring the project to a full completion to serve its purpose.

The challenges of teachers’ accommodation and completing the project came to the attention of Dr. Nene Sipim Narh Terkpertey II, Sipim of Manya-Aklomuase through a special appeal made to him by the headmistress of MAKROSEC and he didn’t hesitate but come to the aid of the school.

At the presentation made before the entire school population of students, staff and management of the school, Dr. Terkpertey donated 8 packets of roofing nails and three packets of iron sheets towards the completion of the bungalow.

The traditional leader while calling on old students to assist their Alma mater in times of need said the donation was geared towards addressing the accommodation needs of teachers of the school.

He also urged the students not to turn their backs on MAKROSEC when they complete school but strive hard to place themselves in positions of responsibility to return to provide their widow’s mite towards supporting their school in the future.

He appealed to local leaders of the Krobo communities to come together to galvanize support to address the various challenges confronting the school.
Speaking in an interview with the media after the presentation, Dr. Tekpertey said he was touched by the plight of both teachers and students on the campus.

“Where the children sleep is not very good. The accommodation for the teachers is also in a bad shape and that’s what touched my heart to come on board and support them so the teachers can have decent bungalows to occupy,” said the traditional leader.

He furthered that the masters’ bungalow was just part of the larger needs of the institution.

“I have seen the situation in the school and I have realized during this donation that a lot needs to be done on the boys’ dormitory. The students don’t have a decent place to sleep, when it rains, they face difficulties so I am appealing to all Krobo indigenes and others with children here to come on board and support the school,” he appealed.

Headmistress of MAKROSEC, Mrs. Agnes Nanor Narteh described the presentation of the items as timely, considering a large number of students and the inadequate housing available to the teachers to put up to effectively discharge their duties.

“Our students are many but teachers' accommodation is not sufficient so roofing the staff bungalow will enable us to accommodate more of them to take responsibility for the boarders,” she said.

According to her, the situation inconvenienced teachers who were forced to commute on a daily basis to and from campus to discharge the duties.
Mrs. Nanor appealed to various NGOs, individuals, and stakeholders to contribute their widow’s mite towards the completion of various ongoing projects being undertaken by the past students of the school and the PTA.

She commended the government for providing 12-unit and 6-unit classroom blocks for the school as well as 200 metal beads and 400 mattresses for the school.
