Ghanaian Textile giant, GTP in collaboration with Ghana National Tailors & Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) launched an initiative called GTP MASTERCLASS WORKSHOP at Takoradi on Mon 4th October 2021. The 3-day intensive training workshop is aimed at re-training and polishing up the proficiency and professionalism of Ghanaian Tailors & Dressmakers.

Speaking at the launch of this initiative, the Managing Director of Tex Styles Ghana Limited, Madam Fatoumata Doro stated, "As a business, our vision is to make GTP the No. 1 global African fashion brand of Ghanaian heritage. We are diligently driving GTP to be the brand of choice for all Afrocentric people of the world."

She acknowledged that to achieve this goal, her company will need the help and collaboration of stakeholders such as Fashion Designers, Dressmakers, Marketers, the media, especially our fashion bloggers. She reminded the dressmakers of the fact that no one can play on the global stage with poor performance. There was therefore the need for all the stakeholders, especially the Dressmakers to up their game.

It is against this background that GTP decided to collaborate with GNTDA to undertake this initiative. This workshop is the first in a series of workshops that will take place nationwide.

Madam Doro highlighted some of the shortfalls in the Ghanaian garment industry for which this initiative seeks to address as poor service delivery, poor customer service, poor bookkeeping poor finishing, poor packaging, poor branding, low creativity, etc.

She stated if as a nation, we really want to encourage more Ghanaians to patronize African prints wear and also enter into the global fashion space, then we don't have a choice but to work on all of these weaknesses. ‘We want to create a critical mass of very good Tailors and Dressmakers to serve the growing demand of authentic Ghanaian wear inside and outside Ghana’, she emphasized.

To make this workshop achieve its intended purpose, the Marketing Director of GTP, Rev Stephen Badu spelled out an elaborate plan that the two parties have put in place to evaluate the performance of all participants months after their training to ensure that they are actually practicing what they have been taught.

On her part, the President of GNTDA, Madam Joana Eshun was full of praise for GTP for making this initiative see the light of day and pledged the support of the association to live up to the high standard expected of them by the society.
