Ghana Post is marking this year's World Post Day with pride as the company has seen a tremendous turnaround in the past four years, leading to significant growth through innovation and the introduction of new services and expansion of its fleet.

This year’s World Post Day is being marked on Saturday, October 9 across the world on the theme: ‘Innovative to recover!’

It comes at a time many countries are recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic.

When Covid-19 affected all the countries of the world, including the established supply chain infrastructure, Ghana Post still found a way to continue offering services to individuals and organizations.

It is this innovativeness of posts, and their resilience in serving communities, that Ghana Post is celebrating on the occasion of World Post Day.

The Head of Corporate Communications, Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, explained that the digitisation of post offices has been at the centre of the turnaround strategy, allowing the company flexibility to easily add on new services.

The introduction of digital addresses by the government, she further stated, has come to enhance delivery of mails and parcels.

Another key innovation is the introduction of the 24-hour delivery service, she said, adding: “It is an improved service where items sent to the post offices are delivered within 24 hours nationwide”.

The company has also partnered Banks for the Live Bank Card delivery, which enables customers to open accounts online and ATM and debit cards delivered at the comfort of their homes.

Other innovations include the Reliable Tracking System which enables both customers and Ghana Post to track items sent. This she said helps to monitor items sent till they are delivered.

There is also the Central Valuation Centre, the Digital Address (Ghana Post GPS), Shortcode For Letter Box Payment.

“We have gained experience from the lessons arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, and understand that innovation is not an accessory; it is the driving force behind recovery, and what makes postal services crucial to billions of people,” Ghana Post said in its statement to mark the Day.

“We appreciate the support of our customers, staff, management and all stakeholders. We look forward to a future with unlimited customer-centred innovations.”

World Post Day is celebrated each year on October 9, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern.

It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations.
