Urban flooding has become a major problem in many parts of Ghana, especially the capital Accra due to its social, economic, and environmental impact. The outflow of the rains on the 14th September 2021 devastated the Happy Family Shelter, an Orphanage facility situated in one of the valleys of Kwashieman a suburb of Accra.

On that fateful Tuesday, the torrent rains which forced their way into the premises of the facility adversely affected the inmates of the facility, and destroyed their food items, beddings, learning, and school materials, and rendered the very young ones traumatized.

Madam Gifty Annan, the caretaker of the orphanage placed a distress call to Ghanaians in general, churches, and corporate institutions to come to their aid with various forms of support. In his response to her calls, the Chairman of the Shakers and Movers Educational Foundation Ghana-USA, Mr. Al-Hassan Kodwo Baidoo visited the facility with his team to undertake some needs assessments of the orphanage.

SAME Foundation is a nongovernmental organization that is dedicated to empowering communities through education. Mr. Baidoo indicated that under their Orphan Support Project, they are obliged to reach out to support the Happy Family Shelter.

He however notes that the dimension of help required to stabilize those inmates is beyond their budget, thus their special appeal to the general public to channel some support to the facility.

SAME Foundation is currently working to support the Happy Family Shelter with at least ten(10) bunk beds with mattresses. They have already paid for all the structural refurbishments but much more needs to be done for the facility. Mr. Baidoo is calling on all and sundry to come through with any kind of help-food items, books, school bags, clothing, mattresses, as well as financial support for school fees and rent.
