The Shakers and Movers Educational Foundation Ghana(SAME Foundation) has successfully completed the first phase of their trilogy of support for the Happy Family Shelter.

The first phase of the Orphan Support Project saw to the painting of the four bedrooms of the inmates, installation of ceiling fans to enhance ventilation, and laying of floor carpets(linoleum) in all four bedrooms. Two big bags of washing powder was added for their laundry. This phase costs a little over GHC3,600

The second phase which is expected to commence latest by Friday 15th October 2021, will also see the installation of ten(10) bunk beds with mattresses to give the inmates some decent and good sleep. The second phase is also estimated to cost some GHC15,000.

Within the past weeks, the SAME Foundation Ghana has been responding to SOS calls from Happy Family Shelter after the orphanage was devastated by flooding. After the flood, the SAME team led by the chairman Mr. Al-Hassan Kodwo Baidoo identified the aspects and areas of their lives that needed urgent support and are receiving the attention and necessary support they deserve.

Touching on the funding of the projects, Mr. Baidoo intimated that the project has not received any institutionalized funding but we have continued to support the facility and the children as much as possible through the support of our families and friends.

We are still in search of a Grant writer who can help us access grants from recognized funding bodies to enable us to extend our support to other orphans in the country.

We are grateful to the people who donated generously and also looking forward to your future support. With your continued support, we aim to introduce our SAME Men of Valour and SAME Women of Substance Mentoring and Grooming Program to the inmates who are within the brackets of Upper Primary, Junior High, and Senior High, the Chairman hinted.

According to Mr. Baidoo, the training program primarily seeks to empower these young minds and equip them with the requisite soft skills and values needed to be a fit-for-purpose adult in an ever-changing world. Most of these orphans are unfortunately getting used to a certain “getting mindset” and lack a sense of ownership due to the absence of checks and proper control within the facility.
