Health Link, a health education-based TV show, is back on the screen after a brief break in preparation for the third season.
The show hosted by Stella Agyei who doubles as the Executive Producer will still air on GHOne TV, Sundays, 4 PM, starting from October 31.
“The health of individuals cannot be separated from the health of the communities. That is why I invite you to join us on our weekly health programme as we move from one community to the other educating people on some health issues common in their communities”, says Stella as she throws more light on the focus of Season 3.
“…tune in each week to hear from people with amazing survival stories and get all your health questions answered from my health experts on season 3 of Health Link.”
Profile:
Stella Agyei is the Executive Director of Health Link Specialist Philanthropy and a registered Midwifery Officer practising at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) with a first degree in Bachelor of Midwifery from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
Even though she is quite young in the profession of midwifery, she acquired a lot of experiences through her clinical days in a number of CHIPS (Community-based Health Planning and Services) compounds in and around the Volta Region of Ghana during her school days. She got inspiration from the Shai Osu Doku Hospital in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana during her National Service programme.
Education and Inspiration:
In spite of the fact that her childhood wasn’t an easy one due to a lack of support and understanding from her guardian, she still exuded confidence and motivation and decided not to resign herself to fate!
She went through life the hard way; having to develop a tough mentality. She was so many miles away from home during her Senior High School at The Nsaaba Presbyterian School and coming from a less privileged home, she realised the only way to break through the social strata was through academic excellence.
Her ambition for success was heightened by her participation in various vacation schools she attended.
It was through these schools that she realised that she was equally good like her counterparts from the A-class schools in Kumasi regardless of her attending a class B-rated school. Determined to make a difference, she took her studies seriously and ended up passing the WASSCE well enough to secure admission to study Bachelor of Midwifery at the UHAS.
Discovery of the health education passion:
During her days at UHAS, she decided to take up a clothing business to augment the source of her educational funding which was inadequate; this was the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey.
Fast forward into the future, after graduating with a Bachelor of Midwifery and having been placed at the Shai Osu Doku Hospital, she took delight in educating expectant parents at the Shai-Osu Doku Government Hospital at Dodowa having realised that mortality rates among babes and mothers were a bit alarming. Additionally, she discharged roles related to labour management, during her National Service programme.
Stella’s entrepreneurial journey has evolved to become more social and now, she is much passionate about preventive health and education and this is what birthed the Health Link Show.
She was approached from time to time by a friend who believed that Stella had what it takes to put together a very successful and impactful health education-based TV show. So, she began putting together the resources for this show around October of 2018.
Several challenges came along the way in putting this Health Educative show together. These ranged from identifying and attracting sponsors for the very first season.
This came as a very challenging task as she had to struggle to convince individuals and companies about a new show which is yet to be created, ideally, these companies and individuals needed evidence of how impactful this show was going to be and its future impact on their sponsorship before they could support it; yet she managed to secure some good sponsorship deals which enabled her to shoot and air the first season on the 29th October 2019 on GHOne.
So far, two seasons have been aired on GHOne and the third season is coming up. However, countless challenges still abound and they include; signing up sponsors, putting together a production crew, content creation, research and the ever-continuous sleepless nights.
The challenges are overwhelming but today Health Link is about producing the third season which is unique; the focus is on some selected rural communities. The third season will have the regular health education element, donation of medical logistics, provision of some primary health care where applicable. Additionally, clothing and consumables will also be given to some members of these communities who are impoverished.
Achievements:
Stella has been able to impact a lot of lives through her platform as a health educator and promoter.
Putting together this show is a very daunting task in the first place. For a while now she has almost single headedly acted as the Host, Executive Producer, Marketer, Script Writer among others.
To some extent, her hard work has paid off, she has successfully completed two seasons and She is currently shooting the third season which has a unique twist. This season focuses on some rural communities in some selected districts across Ghana and requires much more effort and sponsorship than the first two seasons.
Moreover, Stella has also been able to legally establish a foundation aimed at supporting individuals and communities with pertinent and pressing health issues. This is called the Health Link Specialist Foundation.
Though this foundation is still in its infantile stage, logistics, consumables and funds to support some health-related charitable causes in communities have been raised through this foundation.
Stella through the HSP is still raising some funds, medical supplies and logistics to assist some people she has encountered so far in her community outreach, specifically, cash, wheelchairs, Zimmer frames, foodstuffs (oil, rice, tomato pastes, etc.), toiletries (soap, detergents, sanitary pads, diapers,), medical supplies (thermometers, sphygmomanometer, skin creams, medications, nose masks, hand sanitizers etc.).
Through the HSP, Audancy Ventures, some well-meaning individuals and Nestle Ghana have been able to donate food and medical items so far in support of season three. In the past, the Health Link TV show
has been sponsored and supported by Nestle Ghana Limited, Moods Condom, M&;C Properties, Prince Syrup, Unilever, Pharmanova, BD medical laboratories and Home fresh foods.
So far, with the production of the third season, only one sponsor has come on board and Health Link is thankful to the management of Serene Insurance for accepting this honour. Stella is humbly appealing to other individuals and corporates to come on board.
The brain behind the show is accepting sponsorship and donations from individuals and companies to enable her to cover costs of production, surgeries, hospital & medication bills and other unforeseen expenses of some sick people in need of medical attention in this third season.
Feel free to support the third season in cash or in kind. You can reach Health Link on…
