Spektra Global in collaboration with ASAG-KNUST holds a Design and Build Seminar

Spektra Global, a design and build professional firm in collaboration with the Architecture Students Association of Ghana (ASAG) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has held a Design and Build Seminar for all KNUST Architecture Students to commemorate ASAG-KNUST week 2021.

This seminar which took place on Friday 9th July 2021, themed “Students: The Future of the Industry”, was held to guide architecture students and upcoming designers on the right part and reveal to them all the great opportunities that this industry has in store for them outside of school and even as students.

The Principal Architect and CEO of Spectra Global L, Mr. William Evans Halm, commended the students and applauded their reconnaissance as to how they came up with such a brilliant theme for the event.

The event commenced with an opening remark from the ASAG Patron, Mr. Opoku, where he eulogized and encouraged all students; from the 1st year to 6th year for their good work so far, and pushed them on to keep doing their best.

C.O.O of Spektra Global, Mrs. Karen Evans Halm, explained that Spektra Global exists as a team, and as part of their goals, they seek to connect architecture students to the world out there, revive their dreams and passion, and guide them on the path of making themselves relevant to the industry.

She went on to say that it really wasn’t an easy task to be an architect but with passion, hard work, dedication, and they love to explore and learn new skills, they will be fine and very successful in the industry.
“Anything good does not come out easily. It is hard but it’s a really good career. It is very rewarding.”

Mr. Halm also elaborated on the role of an architect and urged the students to drive themselves to take up a challenge to better themselves.

He said that “one very important way to be really successful in the industry is to possess the ability to communicate your idea to sell yourself”, and advised that every individual mustered the art of presentation and communication to meet the technological and advanced system in this century in order to meet the needs of clients or even better.

C.O.O Karen Evans Halm gave a start-up and “as a guide for students who want to have a great and successful career in the industry,

1. Start making free designs for friends, lecturers, etc to enrich your skills.

2. By doing so, you develop a portfolio from there. (NB: you have to give something first, to impress clients and get yourself a job in the firm)

She disclosed how Spektra had made it to date and how A. I have helped with most of their initiatives and further gave tips on how to adapt to the technological world of today.

3. Apply for Internships: You get to learn a lot in the firm through that to develop yourself

4.Integrate your presentation skills: muster great presentation skills to make you relevant in the architecture firm

5. Expand on other areas: broaden your creative skills

6. Develop a planning ability

In her closing remarks, she reiterated that Spektra existed to help people expand themselves to meet the system and called on all students to do their very best to be relevant in the industry.
