Emmanuel Paa Kwesi Simpson of Connect FM to spend two weeks in police custody Emmanuel Paa Kwesi Simpson of Connect FM to spend two weeks in police custody

Management of the Media General Group wishes to update members of the public on the latest development concerning the alleged Mpohor kidnapping incident reported by its presenter, Emmanuel Paa Kwesi Simpson of Connect FM in the Western Region.

During the morning show on 1st November 2021 hosted by Mr. Simpson, a caller broke the news that his girlfriend had been kidnapped. The police arrested him and were charged with the publication of false news with the intent of causing fear and alarm to the public contrary to the Public Order Act, and false publication of news through an electronic device contrary to the Electronic Communications Act, 775 of 2008.

On Thursday 4th November 2021, he was denied bail by a circuit court in Takoradi to spend two weeks in police custody and will reappear in court on November 16, 2021. It is our hope that Mr. Simpson is not victimized as he was only doing his work as a journalist and had no control over the information by the caller, Stephen Kumi, the boyfriend of the lady allegedly kidnapped, who is also in police custody.

We pray the court to grant him bail.

Signed.
