At least about Ten – Thousand [10,000] residents of Akyem – Oda in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region are expected to undergo free health screening and medical treatment currently ongoing in the area.
The exercise which commences from 1st April 2019 and expected to end on 23rd August 2019, would take place across some 18 electoral areas in the area.
The Foundation would also renew any NHIS card bearing member whose card has expired free-of-charge.
Under the programme, medical personnel recruited by the two institutions will spend one week in each of the electoral areas to examine the people, offer treatment for them and refer those with serious medical problems to the hospitals for treatment.
This was revealed when the Akyem Oda Community Hospital in collaboration with Alexander Akwasi Acquah Foundation launched a GH150,000 programme dubbed “Community Health Trail’’ to finance the health screening exercise.
Mr. Akwasi Acquah the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the two organizations speaking at the launch said his decision to provide free health care at the doorsteps of the people was to give back to the community where he hailed from.
According to him, his outfit has established the Oda Community Hospital to reduce the congestion at the Oda Government Hospital and also set up the Kotokuman Education Endowment Fund last year which offered scholarships to 10 tertiary students from the area.
He promised to provide more social interventions this year to create more jobs and economic empowerment for the people in the area.
Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh, the Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional area, also urged the residents to patronize the free health screening and medical treatment to ensure its success.
Obrempong Saforo Kyereh further tasked the assembly members in the area to be up and doing to rid the municipality of filth and to minimize the outbreak of diseases by mobilizing the people to offer periodic cleanup exercises in their electoral areas.
