Five (5) persons have been confirmed dead while 22 others are said to be in critical condition following an accident that occurred on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Gomoa Odumasi on the Winneba Cape Coast highway.
It follows an on head collision between a cargo truck with the registration number WR 211-W and a Sprinter bus also registered GT4913-19
An eyewitness who only gave his name as Kofi told MyNewsGh.com the Sprinter bus was coming from Accra towards Takoradi did a wrongful overtaking resulting in the collision with the oncoming cargo truck.
The five deceased persons included a three-year-old boy according to his brother
The Winneba fire Service Assistant Station officer, Mr. Akumey Elorm who spoke to the media revealed some people were stuck in the car and it took them some hours before they could be rescued and rushed to the Apam Catholic Hospital.
The Deputy Administrator of St Luke Catholic Hospital at Apam, Rev. Father Francis Oteng Dumfeh who spoke to the journalists confirmed the deaths but said efforts were underway to save the lives of the injured persons.
He hinted that those whose cases are critical will be conveyed to the Korle Bu and 37 Military hospitals for further attention.
