50-year-old death trap classroom block affecting teaching and learning - PTA calls for help

It seems the issue of educational infrastructural deficit continues to hunt the country as many schools are still battling with the challenge.

A visit to Nkurakan Presby schools revealed teaching and learning is been affected due to the nature of their school blocks.

The over-aged 50-year old school building has turned into a death trap, developing many cracks with some of the roofing sheets destroyed.

The situation becomes a worry whenever there is a downpour or heavy wind as the school is closed to allow pupils return back to their homes to prevent any unforeseen occurrences.

Speaking to the PTA Chairman of the school, Mr. Samuel Teye Wayo complained that several appeals to the Municipal Education Directorate and the Yilo Krobo MCE have yielded no result as authorities have turned a blind eye to the problem.

He indicated that the people in the community started a 6-unit classroom block but have been abandoned due to lack of funds at the roofing stage.

"As a PTA Chairman, I have led my people to construct a temporal wooden structure for the JHS pupils but it is even not large so the class is overcrowded in the COVID-19 era" Mr. Wayo disclosed.

He, however, appealed to the Member of Parliament for the area, the Assembly, and NGOs to as matter of urgency come to our aid.
