Abura Tetsi chiefs, residents ‘ban’ MP, DCE over failure to provide water, durbar ground

Chiefs and youth of Abura Tetsi in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese constituency in the Central Region have declared the community a no go area for their DCE, Aba Hagan and MP, Elvis Morris Donkor for failing to provide them potable drinking water and a durbar ground.

According to the residents, even though the community houses an IMF sponsored project for supply of potable water to parts of the Region, they are not benefitting from the project.

They also accuse the DCE of providing the community with only two streetlights since she took office. The youth are threatening to forcefully shut down the IMF sponsored water project if their concerns are not addressed.

Speaking to Starr News, spokesperson for the Abura Tetsi Royal Palace Nana Kwame Wontumi accused the MP of donating only ten bags of cement for the durbar ground project since he was elected; a project which according to him has since stalled. Mr Wontumi cautioned the MP and the DCE for the area not to attempt stepping foot in the community to campaign ahead of the December 7 elections if they fail to embark on the aforementioned developmental projects.

“We the youth of Abura Tetsi are reminding our MP Elvis Morris Donkor since he became MP he has only given us ten bags of cement and 8 metallic poles for the durbar ground project. Since this gesture, it’s 4 years now we’ve not sighted our MP again. The MCE lives on our land in her official residence. She has her private residence on our land too.”

“The IMF water project is also located on our land which supplies water to parts of the Central region. Our chiefs took nothing for releasing the land for the project. The MCE promised us potable water but that is yet to materialize. All she (MCE) did was to provide a shed at the durbar ground. We are telling her that when it comes to development were lagging behind. But if they feel this community belongs to them, we are daring both our MCE and MP to step foot here for campaign. We will forcefully shut down the water project or dismantle it completely from our land for we took no money before making the land available,” one of the agitating youth stated.

The MCE is yet to respond to text messages and calls to react to the claims.

For his part, the MP for the area Elvis Morris Donkor said he is unaware of the agitations of the residents.

According to him, he is headed for the community this weekend and will use the opportunity to give the youth a listening ear. Mr Donkor has however refuted the claims of the youth arguing the Durbar ground in question is a self-help project.
