Managers of the Ankasa Conservation Forest in Ghana's Western Region are requesting increased patrols and drones to combat poaching and encroachment.

Despite efforts to plant 8,000 Mahogany trees, Ankasa remains Ghana's only wet evergreen rainforest, known for its rare species and biodiversity.

The forest, gazetted in 1976, covers 509 square kilometers and is crucial for biodiversity research and tourism.

The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission warns that without modern monitoring equipment, Ankasa is vulnerable to illegal activities. Park Manager Dramani Dauda Jawat emphasizes the need to protect Ankasa's unique ecosystem from further degradation.
