The Assokor-Essaman D/A Junior High School in the Shama District of the Western Region has won the maiden edition of the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) inter-schools quiz competition held in Shama.
They exhibited their academic prowess and showcased a strong lead in all the five rounds of questions of the competition to clinch 29 points to beat seven other competing schools.
Supomu-Dunkwa Methodist JHS bagged 24 points to register the second position, with Abuesi D/A recording 23 points for the third place, Onua Francis JHS also had 23 points to go for the fourth place.
Inchaban D/A, Shama Catholic JHS and Emmanuel Methodist JHS also participated in the competition.
The competitors answered questions on mathematics, integrated Science, Social studies, current affairs and the operations of WAPCo.
The quiz, which is the third to be organised in the country forms part of WAPCo's corporate social responsibility and is collaborated by the Ghana education service to enhance quality learning in schools of WAPCo operational Communities.
The Shama District Director of Education, Efua Amoakoah Quansah, commended WAPCo for the gesture and said it would contribute to the quality of education among the schools in the Shama District.
She said it would also enhance academic excellence and problem-solving abilities, boost their confidence and instill in them the spirit of healthy academic Competition.
Mrs Quansah said the quiz would help the pupils to develop their research skills, unearth their talents and provoke cooperation, teamwork and coordination.
Nana Akosua Mfransie II, Chief of Lower Inchaban, thanked WAPCo for sharing their profits with the people of Shama.
She said the gesture would enhance the relationship between WAPCo and its operational Communities.
Nana Mfransie commended the competing schools for their efforts and urged them to make use of what they had learnt from the competition.
She called on other organisations in the energy sector to emulate WAPCo by contributing to the development of the Shama District.
Each contesting school was presented with textbooks, dictionaries, and science application sets and other learning materials, while the individuals of the winning schools received Huawei electronic tablets and some books.
