Pastor Paul Kojo Mahama, the Bodi District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost has encouraged the youth to be more peace-loving and avoid acts that promote social insecurity.
He said building a prosperous Ghana required that the youth channelled their human resources to acts that advanced growth than ones that may derail the current level of development in the country.
Speaking at a day’s workshop to sensitize the youth to end violent extremism, Pastor Mahama appealed to the youth to continue to have faith in the state apparatus, express their opinions and aspirations through proper mediums.
It was organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in collaboration with the European Union in Sefwi- Bodi.
Pastor Mahama urged the youth to desist from unnecessary arguments and the keeping of weapons that could lead to violence.
Emmanuel Awotwe, the District Director for NCCE said the Commission would not relent on its efforts to sensitize the populace especially the youth on the relevance of unity to help move the country forward in peace.
He said peace and tolerance were key ingredients of democracy and their absence would cause the country more harm than good.
Mr. Awotwe advised the youth to be patriotic, honest, sincere, just and fair, loyal, and hard-working since these were positive values and good characters for national development.
The Bodi District Police Commander, ASP Erasmus Afeyi advised against drug abuse which could influence their actions negatively.
He prayed for peaceful coexistence, tolerance of divergent views, reforms of negative attitude and promotion of peace, good governance, and participatory democracy.
