The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a strong warning against the illegal sale, distribution, and purchase of fake meters in the Ashanti Region.

Recent inspections revealed counterfeit meters being transported from Togo and confiscated at checkpoints.

ECG Ashanti-West General Manager, Mr. Maxwell Dapaah, stressed that meters not supplied by ECG are not recognized for billing and may pose safety risks, including fire hazards and transformer damage.

He urged customers to avoid unauthorized sources and contact ECG directly for genuine meters.

The company is committed to taking legal action against those involved in the fake meter trade and encouraged the public to support efforts to prevent meter fraud.
