The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has inaugurated a five-member committee set up by the Regional Coordinating Council to investigate circumstances that led to the death of a two-year-old boy at the Wa Regional Hospital on November 9, 2019.
The death of the boy which sparked outrage in the Wa Municipality was said to have occurred after he was denied treatment to a snake bite because he had no folder at the time he was rushed to the hospital.
The Members of the committee are Alhaji Issaka Hassan (retired nurse), Abdul-Gafar Yakubu (journalist), D/CPL Richman Ayittey (GPS), Lawyer F.K. Nimarkoh (AGD) and Alfred Anzagirah (GHS)
The committee among other things is expected to investigate the exact circumstances that led to the untimely death of the boy and to establish whether there were professional and ethical breaches or not.
The committee is also expected to investigate the readiness of the OPD to contain the high patient numbers that visit the facility.
The committee is further to investigate the readiness of the hospital to treat snakebites and whether the anti-snake bite serum is available at the place.
The committee also after its investigations, is expected to make recommendations on sanctions for persons who may be culpable in the circumstances that led to the death of the two-year-old boy.
The committee is expected to submit its report two weeks from the start of its investigations and not after November 26.
