A group christened ‘2H City Connect’ has distributed over 3000 face masks to residents in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta region as part of a campaign dubbed “Wear A Mask”.
Phase one of the campaign covered beneficiaries from Gbi Avega, Godenu, Wegbe, Akplamafu, Atabu, Kpoeta, Kledzo, Hohoe, Bla, Kpeme, Abansi and Alavanyo Abehenease towns.
Mr. Honour Agbemor-Flint, President of the group in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the group was made up of volunteers with the aim of identifying social gaps within communities and addressing them, hence the decision to reach out to individuals within the Municipality and educating them on the need to observe all safety protocols to keep safe and use the face masks.
He said the distribution was the first part of a two-phased campaign rolled out by the group, adding that “we contracted local manufacturers in a bid to empower them financially and to teach them how to produce locally made standardized mask”.
Mr. Agbemor-Flint said the group saw the need to support the government’s effort to curb the spread of COVID 19 and took up the challenge to raise GH?24,000.00 to supply 10,000 masks by engaging young and upcoming tailors and seamstresses within the Municipality to sew them under standards and strict hygienic measures.
He noted that additional 7000 face masks would be distributed to residents in the rest of the communities within the Municipality under phase two of the ‘Wear A Mask’ Campaign and called on individuals, groups and corporate organizations to assist in the fight against COVID 19.
