Let’s unite to defeat NDC - Cape Coast Mayor

The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Mr Ernest Arthur, has called on all delegates and party supporters in the Cape Coast South Constituency to remain resolute and forge ahead in unity to enable the party – New Patriotic Party (NPP) – wrestle the constituency seat.

According to Mr Arthur, the NPP’s quest to win the seat in 2020 was highly possible, following the track record of the party since 2017, but that could not be achieved without unity.

He has, therefore, appealed to all contestants in the just-ended parliamentary primaries and their supporters to come together as one family with a common purpose.

Mr Arthur stated this in an interview with The Chronicle after he was elected by delegates to represent the party, come 2020, as their parliamentary candidate.

It would be recalled that Mr Arthur recorded a sweet victory over two other contestants during the parliamentary primary held on Saturday at the Centre for National, Cape Coast.

The Mayor pulled an impressive 271 votes of the total valid votes cast to emerge winner, while Messrs Perry Mensah and Dsane Selby trailed with 133 and 110 respectively.

Speaking to this reporter, Mr Arthur expressed appreciation to the delegates for the trust reposed in him and promised to work hard to grab the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The victory represents a victory for the whole party in 2020. However, we have to extend a hand to all other candidates and their supporters, and bring them on board,” he said.

This, he told The Chronicle, “would enable us to present a formidable front during the 2020 elections. Our good deeds are there to speak for us, but we must not be complacent.”

The battle lines are now drawn between the NDC and the NPP in the Cape Coast South Constituency, which is currently occupied by the NDC’s Mr Kweku Ricketts Hagan.

The incumbent MP was re-elected by his party when it went to congress recently.

Some of the delegates, who later spoke to this reporter, indicated that Mr Arthur has been a good father for all during his days as the Constituency Chairman of the party.

According to others, Mr Arthur served the party with his resources during the period that the party was in opposition, and continues to do same now.

“Mr Arthur has endeared himself to the hearts of many Cape Coasters with his open door policy and sense of unity that has mended all cracks within the party,” said a delegate.

He is, therefore, believed to be the most trusted candidate to wrestle the seat from the NDC.

The Cape Coast South seat has been occupied by the NDC since the constituency was split.

The NPP is, therefore, determined to snatch it for the first time, with Mr Arthur spearheading the fight as a parliamentary candidate.
