OSSEC students show the way in blood donation

Akim Osino, June 4, GNA - Fifty-one students of the Akim Osino Presbyterian Technical School in the Fanteakwa District, have donated a pint of blood each to the Regional Hospital at Koforidua as their contribution to the welfare of humanity.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency on Friday, after the exercise, Mr Phanuel Mididzifa, the Blood Organiser, who commended the gesture by the students said the exercise was necessary because the various district hospitals relied on the Regional Hospital's blood bank to supplement their stock.

According to him, blood transfusion was on the increase because of many pregnant women who urgently needed blood at the various district hospitals in the region.

He also explained that the prevalence of malaria among the children, accident cases, among others were reasons for the need for enough stock of regular blood supply. Mr Mididzifa said the Blood Unit was now focusing attention on second cycle students who were anxious to donate blood, saying lack of proper education was militating against the spirit of free will donation.
