Otumfuo backs KMA on demolition of unauthorized buildings

The Manhyia Palace has given its backing to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for the demolition of unauthorized structures within the Garden City.

On Kumasi-based Angel FM, the Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi said the demolition has become imperative following the erection of several unauthorized structures within the city without recourse to directives by authorities.

He disclosed that the backing was not only coming from the Manhyia Palace but His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II implying that failure by the assembly to enforce its own actions offends the King as well.

The exercise will see to it that, all traders doing business on pavements along the principal streets and unauthorized places are cleared.

According to Mr Assibey, Kumasi as it stands sits on a time bomb, indicating that there is the need to safeguard all individuals in the metropolis against a looming disasters.

Explaining how the whole exercise would be carried out, he said a taskforce will be deployed onto the principal streets to arrest those who refuse to leave the pavements by Monday November 6, 2017

He indicated that, the exercise will be held at all business centers within the Metropolis including Doctor Mensah, Kejetia, Adum, Pampaso, Suame and Sofoline hinting that drivers who have created their own parking lots could be affected.
