On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at around 5 a.m., a power pole overloaded with transformers caught fire on Owula Mampong Street in Accra Newtown, near Zen filling station.

Eyewitnesses reported flames and thick smoke emanating from the pole, alarming residents.

The fire lasted about 45 minutes, prompting evacuations and emergency calls. This is not the first time the pole has caught fire, with previous incidents raising concerns about the Electricity Company of Ghana's (ECG) failure to address the issue.

Residents believe the fire was caused by an overload on the transformers.

Despite delays in emergency response, a Good Samaritan with a fire extinguisher helped control the flames.

Locals are urging ECG to redistribute the transformers to prevent future incidents and ensure safety.
