In the Sagnarigu Municipality, many junior high school girls face increased absenteeism due to inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, especially during their menstrual cycles.
A recent survey reveals over 60% of these girls miss school during their periods due to the lack of proper WASH infrastructure.
Schools like Kasalgu Zion JHS and Nangbagu JHS have only poor urinals, forcing some girls to practice open defecation.
The School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinator noted 75% of schools lack standardized WASH facilities, urging government action to include gender-friendly WASH components in educational facility designs.
