Save Our Lives orphanage appeals for biogas facility

Save Our Lives, an orphanage at Bekwai Anwiankwanta in the Ashanti region of Ghana is appealing to philanthropic organizations and individuals to come to their aid to install a biogas.

The biogas project when installed, according to the manager of the orphanage, Rakaarrd Sarkodie Addai, will be a “lasting solution to the energy problems” of the orphanage. The project is expected to cost the orphanage about GH¢65,000.

“Raising this money while taking care of the kids would be a huge challenge. We are therefore appealing to other philanthropic organizations and individuals to come and support us,” he said.
“Energy is a huge challenge to us; we currently depend on liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and firewood. The health challenges, as well as the risk associated with these two, are enormous. Getting the biogas will bring us a huge relief,” he added.

Mr. Sarkodie made the appeal during a visit to the orphanage by the President of the Amansie Union of France, Kwabena Bonah, in August this year.

Following the request, the union has made a donation of GH¢7000 to the orphanage towards the project.

Presenting the money on behalf of the Amansie Union of France, Mr. Bonah said the appeal made by the manager ‘touched’ them hence the decision to come to their aid. He appealed to other philanthropists, organizations and well-meaning Ghanaians to contribute their part towards the installation.

Mr. Addai expressed his appreciation to the Union for the gesture. He, however, appealed to other Amansie Unions in other parts of the world to also come to their aid.
