Traders blame irregular rainfall for increase in yam prices

Yam prices at the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani have surged due to irregular rainfall and the high cost of farming inputs.

Currently, 100 tubers of yam cost between GHC6,000 and GHC7,500 at farm gates in the Bono Region.

Market prices have significantly increased from the same period in 2023, with three tubers costing between GHC50 and GHC100.

Yam sellers attribute the hike to reduced supply from poor rains and higher farming costs, not deliberate price inflation.

They expect better availability in the coming months, as only a few communities like Fiaso are currently supplying yams.
