Trevi Youth Development Association, a non-governmental association, with the objective of promoting unity and development in the Hohoe metropolis has been inaugurated in Hohoe.
The Association, which has 200 members so far, was formed by indigenes from the Hohoe metropolis resident both at Hohoe Trevi and other parts of the country, to serve as a catalyst to facilitate the socio-economic development of the area.
The occasion saw the swearing into office of a nine member executive committee, chaired by Mr David Komla Adiku.
Togbega Gabusu VI, in his inaugural speech, commended the youth for coming together to think about development of the area.
He commended the youth for coming together to form such an association, adding that the youth of today have become the building blocks of every society for the future.
He said the Hohoe metropolis was developing at a fast rate, but unfortunately it lacked many socio-economic facilities to promote the development of the youth especially in the area of skills training.
He asked the members to come out with innovative ideas to ensure that the Association stood the test of time.
Togbega Gabusu pledged the support of the Traditional Council to the Association and said his doors were always opened for discussions to promote development in the metropolis.
Dr Bernice Adiku Helo, Deputy Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, a native of the area, commended the youth for their initiative, adding that the native of the town, the motivation of the Association should be driven by the passion to inspire the youth in the metropolis to develop their talents and skills for job creation.
She said the youth have a lot of talents which should not be allowed to go waste and advised them to eschew laziness, apathy and self-complacency and promote unity and the spirit of cooperation.
She pledged to support the work of the Association to realise its objectives.
Mr Adiku said the youth were motivated by their desire to put their services at the disposal of the community and help reach out to their brothers and sisters who were less fortunate.
He said as an NGO, the Association will help tap the ideas of everybody who has the development of the area at heart, adding that the Association would work hard to generate income to complement corporate industry for support to enable the Association achieve its objectives for the common good of all .
He assured members of transparency in the operation of the Association.
