Upper West Akim DCE and NPP PC distribute PPE to registrants

Ghanaians have been urged to be mindful of the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic, while exercising their civic rights in registering for Voter’s Identification Card.

Mr. Eugene Sackey, Upper West Akim District Chief Executive (DCE) who issued the reminder, cautioned that failure to adhere to the measures could result into the spread of the virus to many more people.

Mr Sackey made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after touring some registration centres at Adeiso, the district capital to acquaint himself with the exercise and also encourage people to comport themselves to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

Eleven of the total of 102 registration centres in the District are involved in the first phase of the exercise which started on Tuesday, June 30 and expected to end in six days for the second phase to commence.

Mr Fredrick Obeng Adom, New Patriotic Party Parliamentary (NPP) Candidate for the Constituency, the Chairman and some executives of the party accompanied the DCE to the centers.

GNA observed that almost all the people at the registration centres wore nose masks, but the social distancing protocol was not entirely observed. The on-going exercise was smooth, but started slowly in some of the centres.

The DCE and the PC also distributed hundreds of the nose masks and hand sanitizers to people at the centres, specially the aged and the vulnerable. Mr Sackey who is also the chairman of the district security committee stated that security was on the ground to ensure law and order.

He further called on all qualified residents in the district to go out in their numbers to register when the exercise commenced in their localities to enable them exercise their franchise in the forthcoming general election in December.

“Let us all comport ourselves during this pandemic era to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus”, he added.
