The Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), Chief Superintendent Dr Benjamin Agordzo has stated that the service has put in measures to ensure that vigilante groups do not resurface during December polls.

Chief Supt Agordzo indicated that operation to disband and discourage political parties from using these groups is yielding good results.

He disclosed that the various political parties signed a pact in Ada some months ago pledging an end to vigilantism.

Vigilante groups in the country which do the bidding of political parties have gained notoriety for causing mayhem during elections.

But speaking to Ultimate News on the sidelines of a pre-election training programme over the weekend for journalists of the Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network, he assured that activities of vigilante groups will not be seen anymore.

According to him, the concept of political party vigilante groups should not be a source of concern in the run up to this year’s elections and that there is a two pronged approach to ensuring that these groups don’t resurface.

He is confident political party Vigilante Groups have been effectively curtailed ahead of the upcoming elections.

The police service became most concerned by the show of bravado and defiance demonstrated by notorious gangs notably the Azoka boys and the Bamba boys, especially in during the Talensi by-elections.
