Eric Pappoe Addo Profile

Having started his career in his homeland, Addo first sprang to prominence with Club Brugge in Belgium's Jupiler League having joined the club in 1996.

He spent three seasons with Brugge and quickly acquired a reputation as a player of considerable talent, so much so that he was named Belgium's young player of the year at the culmination of the 1997-98 campaign as they claimed the domestic title.

His performances also attracted the attention of clubs throughout Europe and PSV won the race for his signature, acquiring him for a fee of GBP4million ($A9.6million) in 1999.

A stellar career beckoned, but unfortunately for Addo a series of injuries severely disrupted his progress. He played less than 30 matches over the next three years and was eventually loaned to Roda JC Kerkrade in order to regain form and confidence.

At the time he admitted: "When I moved to PSV there was a lot of pressure and obviously it got worse when I was injured. They paid a lot of money for me. I still need to show the supporters what I am capable of and the move to Roda is the solution for me."

Upon his return to Eindhoven, Addo finally nailed down a starting spot and began to show the form that had made him such a valuable asset in the first place.

To date (June 2007) he has won five Dutch Eredivisie titles with his club and also played for PSV in last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool, bringing some much-needed solidity to a side who had been beaten 3-0 at home in the first leg.

Ronald Koeman's side went through a post-Christmas slump domestically and leading up to the last day of the campaign it looked as though they would miss out on the title as they were only in third place.
However, a 5-1 victory over Vitesse Arnhem on the final weekend saw them triumph by the narrowest margin - a single goal better on goal difference - to dash the hopes of fellow title challengers AZ Alkmaar and Ajax.
By that stage, however, Addo was already contemplating pastures new having said: "I will not extend my contract with PSV Eindhoven because things are not improving here for me.
"The 2008 African Cup of Nations is getting close and if I have to stay I should be guaranteed more playing time to be fit for the tournament in Ghana.
"PSV understand my situation and have agreed to allow me to leave at the end of the season."
A swift change of heart then ensued with Addo extending his contract with Eindhoven despite reported interest from a number of clubs, including Galatasaray.
Delight for Addo if not for the Turkish giants, and he now has the opportunity to make up for lost time with his long-term future secured.
