Asa Savings and Loans hosts medical screening for traders at Berekum Business Center

Over 200 people, made up of the aged, young adults and children have benefited from a free eye and general medical screening by Asa Savings and Loans at Berekum.

They had their eye tested and were screened on malaria, hepatitis B, diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol.

The event, which is organized annually throughout the company’s business centers and branches across the country, forms part of its corporate social responsibility.

Insecticide Treated Nets were distributed to each individual during the screening.

The Medical Doctor of Rafic Clinic, Japhet Agyeman Badu Sanford who was in charge of the screening disclosed that most of the people screened had eye related ailments, while some tested positive for malaria and few others also tested for hepatitis B.

Malaria had six positive cases, two positive hepatitis B cases, as 25% of those screened were diabetic, and a 23.6% hypertensive rate.

Medications were given to people according to the kind of disease and were encouraged to sleep in Insecticide Treated Nets as well as seek medical attention whenever they are not well.



Those whose conditions were critical were referred to the hospital for treatment.

Mr. Agyemang Badu advised the partakers to exercise regularly, check their diets, eat a well-balanced meal and take in lot of fruits and water to boost their immune system.
Mr. Isaac Agyapong, Area Manager of ASA for the enclave, who supervised the screening was elated at the number of people who showed up and assured them of the company’s continued support to the society.

The Branch Manager of the Berekum Business, Mr. Emmanuel Ntim entreated the participants to check on their health regularly to know their status.
