AVONSIGE RUNWAY FOR A CAUSE, is a community based non-governmental organization founded in the year 2019 by successful Ghanaian fashion designer Augustina Ayinemi Avonsige who is the creative director and CEO of AVONSIGE Fashion House, and hails from Sumbrungu -Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
AVONSIGE RUNWAY FOR A CAUSE is a Christmas party and kids fashion show for orphans and underprivileged kids in northern Ghana.
These Christmas parties usually highlight a kids fashion show were the orphans get to model Christmas dresses from recreated collections from AVONSIGE Fashion house.
The event also serves as an avenue to raise funds for new school uniform project to buy school uniform materials. We engage the services of seamstresses within that same underprivileged community to sew the school uniforms for the orphans. This not only provides job opportunities for these women, but also donating these uniforms to underprivileged kids in our local communities who cannot afford school uniforms. Our most recent project is working with school authorities to identifying teenage dropouts and enrolling them under vocational training courses like tailoring, bead making, soap making, to reintegrate them into society.
The event is organized every December with a fully packed program line up of eating, drinking, dancing, singing, games and other fun competitions for the orphans.
This year, as part of our annual celebrations, we partnered with selected private schools in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to join in our Christmas party for the orphans. By purchasing tickets at a fee, each ticket bought by a pupil was a pledge to provide a new school uniform for an orphaned child in the community. The decision to include the pupils from schools was primarily to breed an environment with a new experience and create an avenue for the orphans to have fun as well as foster a feeling of community for them. The party was held at the Atula hotel at Yikene, off the Bolga-Navrongo road on the 16th of December,2023 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. The package for pupils and orphans who participated included; food, water, ice cream , pop corn and cotton candy. The party was packed with fun games such as musical chairs, dancing competitions, treasure hunts (pilolo) and bread on a string. All competitors for each game who emerged winners were given a “goodie bag” as their prizes and also made to make a handprint on a canvas to create a beautiful portrait of remembrance of victory. We had some corperate institutions, individuals and other volunteers join the occasion as well. Very importantly, we did not compromise on security. The security team ensured all children had maximum safety. The Christmas party was climaxed with a grande fashion show, where the orphans modeled in their custom made Christmas clothes on the runway made by Avonsige fashion house, from the ‘Motherland Collection’ of clothes. The party ended in smiles, joy and fulfillment.
We hope to bring out a sense of belonging and unearth a great deal of creativity among the youth, orphaned children and the needy as well as to promote the benefits of education to these underprivileged children . The Avonsige Fashion For a Cause also seeks to foster harmony and togetherness among orphans and the needy.
