Strengthen School-Community Participation To Sustain National Development-An Educationist Tells Government

A teacher and educational leader, Mr. Al-Hassan Kodwo Baidoo has asked Government through the National Commision on Civic Education (NCCE) to roll out a National program to mandatorily ensure that communities actively participate in school activities and decision making. He thinks the community perspectives, experiences and knowledge count and will help sustain national development when properly and strategically harnessed. He made this call when he led the UNIJOSA 95 year group to donate several boxes of whiteboard markers to their alma-mater-University Junior High School in Cape Coast last Thursday, the 2nd of June.

The Executive Committee of UNIJOSA 95 Year Group led by the President of the group engaged with the management of UJHS after the donation of assorted Fenlot whiteboard markers to the school.

Mr. Baidoo pointed to several developmental projects being undertaken by Old Student Associations across the country both at the Junior High and Senior High levels, and challenged school authorities to involve Old students associations in planning and decision making. He cited Adisco 98 Year Group and their Legacy Project which is currently under construction in the school. He used the occasion to call on all and sundry especially members of the Santa 98 fraternity to continue to support that matchless Legacy project.

Mr. Foster Kwashie Dugble, the Headteacher of University Junior High School expressed his team’s profound gratitude for the unexpected kind gesture of the UNIJOSA 95. He assured the group that the School Management Committee will deliberate on their needs and update the group on which of their needs they would need their help with.

The Assistant Headteacher Mrs. Eleanor Efua Onyame officially thanked UNIJOSA 95 Year Group for their timely support and added that “like Oliver Twist, we ask for more from you”.

Mr. Victor Bekoe who is a Science teacher of University JHS and a member of the UNIJOSA 95 Year Group was appointed the Liaison Officer to present a petition from the school to the group.

The Group’s officer in charge of projects, assured the ICT department of UJHS that UNIJOSA 95 will lend the school its support to solve their desktop virtualization challenges. Mr. Jerry Tamakloe, himself a staff of the ICT Department of University of Cape Coast and the Vice President of UNIJOSA 95 also hinted of an ICT tutorial program for UJHS .
