The Deputy National Youth Organiser for the biggest opposition party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress, Eric Edem Agbana, has appealed to the government to increase the amount given to National Service Personnel at the end of each month as allowance.
In an interview with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on the Prime Morning Show on Thursday, March 16, the young politician expressed worry over the amount paid by government to NSSP describing the situation as emotional.
According to him, there have been several calls on the government to increase the amount paid to fresh graduates who are mandated to serve the country for a year after their graduation, but it (government) have turned deaf ears to those calls.
‘’Even this morning, on my way to your station an NSSP called me and just wanted me to send him something little for him to be able to afford food for the day,’’ he lamented.
Edem further opined that the government is capable of increasing the amount as it keeps wasting resources and spending on frivolous things.
At the moment, the allowance given to NSSP at the end of each month stands at Ghc559 and has not seen any increase or change since 2017.
