I am one of the terrorist commanders; I got the name 'Rugurugu' which means no mercy - Rugurugu

A surrendered commander of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group, Malam Adamu Rugurugu, has stated reasons why he agreed to surrender to the Borno state government and military. It should be noted that for over a decade, residents of Borno State have been at the mercy of terrorists who attack without remorse.

While speaking to the Vanguard Newspaper, the former terrorist commander revealed how he got his name and the terror he caused innocent citizens. In his words, he said, "Yes, I am one of the commanders." I got the name Rugurugu, which means no mercy from the battlefield. On the battlefield, I was very dangerous because I usually destroyed everything in my way. I was fearless. These scars and marks you are seeing all over me are because I was fearless. "The governor heard about me and knew that if I am persuaded to come out, many fighters will follow me, and that is how we came out and surrendered."

Further speaking on how the government is taking care of him and about 14,000 repentant terrorists in his camp, Rugurugu said, "At this camp, I will say the government and Gen. Abdel-Ishaq are doing a lot for us surrendered fighters." They convinced me and assured me that if I abandoned this cause, which is of no benefit, we would be catered for. Our women and children have well looked after. "When anyone falls sick, we have medical people here to treat them."
