I didn't expect this statement from you - Gyampo cautions Okyehene

The Okyenhene, leader of the Akyem people has been trending since yesterday for certain comments that he made regarding some Ghanaians. President Akufo-Addo has been touring some parts of the country. over the weekend he was in the Eastern region and was joined by the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin.

The overlord of the Akyem was noted to have said that all critics of President Akufo-Addo especially on the president’s fight against galamsey is either a witch or a villager. Many have condemned these comments of the Okyenhene. The President might have connections with the Okyenhene but for the latter to compare the critics of the President to villagers or witches was below the belt.

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Political Lecturer with the University of Ghana has sent a simple but strong worded statement to the Okyenhene. According to Ransford Gyampo, the king is supposed to be a unifier to many people when there are turbulent times. He boldly questioned if the Okyenhene truly believes that those who criticize the President are witches or villagers.

Ransford Gyampo called the king to above this pettiness and be the unifier and neutral person that he is supposed to be. It is interesting to also ask if those in villages in Akyem are not human beings. This is not the first time the Okyenhene has demonstrated his partisanship. No one is preventing him from doing this. His role as a leader prevents this. but it is fine. But for him to use certain unsavory comments against others is unwarranted because his kingdom isn’t made up of only NPP supporters.

Many have called on the Okyenhene to apologize. This is unlikely to happen. However, for leaders who expect young ones with coconut heads to listen to them it is unfathomable for them to rather resort to certain words when they have the chance to speak in public.
