Nail changes that could be a sign that someone is HIV positive

The nails of those who have the human immune virus frequently change (HIV). Some are caused by the virus itself, while others are a result of a compromised immune system or negative reactions to various antiretroviral drugs.

According to Healthline, the human immune virus may have the following effects on your nails:

*Yellow toenails

Yellow toenails typically result from a fungal infection of the nails. The medical term for this might be onychomycosis or tinea unguium, which is quite prevalent in HIV-positive patients.

The nail may also be thickened, brittle, or smelly.

*Thickened nails

The toenails may thicken and feel uncomfortable over time. Toenails frequently come into contact with moist environments, which leads to thickened nails.

As a result, they are more susceptible to fungus infections. People with uncontrolled HIV are more vulnerable to fungus infections because their immune systems have been compromised.

Additional symptoms of toenail fungus infection include toenails that are yellow, brown, or green, have an unpleasant odour coming from them, split, crumble, or lift from the toe bed.

*Clubbing

Clubbing is the term for when your fingernails or toenails thicken and curve around your fingers or toes. Low blood oxygen levels may result from this process, which typically takes years to complete.

Clubbing might be a precursor to acquired immune deficiency syndrome in kids with HIV.rome in kids with HIV.
