Sad scenes as two brothers bash father to death in front of their mother

TWO brothers were arrested in Glen Norah on Sunday for bashing their 73-year-old father to death accusing him of witchcraft.

Bruce Chitaukire, 47, of Stoneridge and Changchu Chitaukire, 43, of Glen Norah New Stands, reportedly ganged up on their father, Solomon, and severely assaulted him with a piece of hose pipe in the presence of their mother, Faith, 67.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest, and urged people to engage elders and counsellors to resolve their disputes, and not to take the law into their own hands.

“Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a Glen Norah man reported to have been assaulted by his two sons.

“Circumstances are that on January 28 at around 8.20pm, the two accused persons, who were reportedly drunk, arrived home while their mother and now deceased father were together.

“One of the sons started accusing the now deceased of witchcraft alleging he had caused the mysterious death of both his sister and young brother.

“He then started assaulting the now deceased with a piece of hose several times all over his body, and the other son joined in the assault.

“The two left the scene and the now deceased managed to walk from the dining room into his bedroom where he lay on the bed,” said Insp Chakanza.

“On January 29 at around 7am, the deceased`s wife, who had slept at her neighbour`s house came home with breakfast for the deceased. She tried to wake him up, but he did not respond,” he said.

Solomon’s body was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital Mortuary and is awaiting post-mortem.

The two brothers were yesterday taken to the crime scene for indications by detectives.

Neighbours blamed some self-styled false prophets for the old man’s death, saying they have been misleading and dividing families.

“Ngapatsvagwe muporofita akaudza vana ava kuti baba vavo ndivo vakaroya vamwe vana.

“Saka munhu wese akachembera atove muroyi here. The two must face the law and disclose the false prophets who misled them,” said a neighbour.
