Volta Star Radio and TV Transmitter Catches Fire

On March 6, 2023, the transmitter at Volta Star radio in Volta caught fire.

The incident is said to have begun at 9:30 a.m., prompting fire officials to storm the facility in order to put out the fire.

Bernard Towoe, Head of Transmission and Engineering, stated that he received a call from a security guard reporting that the transmitter had caught fire.

He described the incident as unfortunate because it occurred on Independence Day and disrupted live coverage of the parade for residents in the region.

According to him, ”it is rather unfortunate that it happened on the day of independence where the people of the Volta Region must witness the celebration, especially those who are not at the venue”.

He said there was a fault which they worked on Sunday, but the stored battery charge of the solar system caught fire.

He said they had to call on the fore service to come and bring the situation under control.

He further revealed that the fore officers had to use the fire extinguishers at the station because they used the foam and other methods which failed to work.
