Change of Completion Date for UCC Sandwich Students

There is currently a mix of reaction and countless conversations generated about the new completion date for the 2020/2021 Sandwich students of the University of Cape Coast.

The students, who are currently pursuing undergraduate education programmes in secondary courses, are unhappy ever since management of the programme hit them with bitter truth due to certain unrestrained challenges.

According to management, the programme which has been running for about five years now takes five semesters (two and a half years) to complete every course work. However, since the institute of Education depends largely on the academic calendar of the Colleges of Education, a change in the latter has uncontrollably affected them.

Since the Colleges of Education are going to use the facility for a long period of months because of a number of batches that need to complete, they will vacate the facility somewhere in September 2022.

As a result of these changes in their academic calendar, the several batches of sandwich students can only use the centre once a year the number of semesters to complete the programme.

This means that, the 2020/2021 batch have three more semesters to complete. That means teach semester will be completed in a year, thus complete in the 2025. Although they were scheduled to complete in 2023 whiles those with one or two follow in that order.

The frustration
My interaction with some affected students on Abetifi College of Education study centre revealed that almost all the students are confused and worried. According to some of them, if nothing is done to reduce the years, they will have quit the programme.

Alternatively, others have also suggested to the institute to consider adopting ICT to conduct the end of semester examinations whiles they continue tuition online through the learning platform and social media learning groups.
