The Minister for Education, Mr. Yaw Adutwum has revealed that his Ministry has initiated several interventions to meet their target and this includes the establishment of an Open University in Ghana.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum had an interview with Kwame Sefa Kayi, The Host of Kokroko Morning Show of Peace FM about three days ago, saying, soon Government will allow Open University operation in Ghana.
According to him, The Open University would be a stand-alone University that is expected to admit about 50, 000 qualified applicants across the country.
He further stated that the expanded access to tertiary financial support under the No Guarantor Policy of the Student Loan Trust Fund is expected to increase tertiary enrolment (both Private and Public).
What is Open University
An open university allows people without formal academic qualifications and where teaching is done using distance education means. Other words, Open universities are institutions offering degrees with low or no entry requirements. They are the ideal study options for students who have graduated their previous studies with low grades but want to continue their higher education.
The goal of open universities is to offer everyone equal opportunities to develop their abilities, to improve their level of education and to retrain for a new career.
