I Was Told; I’m The Most Hated Player in Ghana’s Football History – Asamoah Gyan Laments

The ‘LeGyandary’, a book that details the life of Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan was launched on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

The colourful programme saw in attendance dignitaries in Government such as President Nana Akufo Addo and Hon. Kennedy Agyapong. They were there to support the first Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan including great footballers like El Hadji Diouf to document his life in a book.

As the book launch was ongoing, Asamoah Gyan was asked a question by a Ghanaian journalist at the occasion. Instead of thanking those present there, he started narrating what he normally hears on the streets of Accra.

According to the Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan; “he has been described as the most hated Ghanaian footballer and most loved at the same time.”

He made this known while speaking at the event; “Sometimes I see people on the streets and then they tell me you are the most hated player in Ghanaian history but they also tell me I’m the most loved. I always sit down and ask myself why the hated part? And then I came to understand that it comes with the territory that I put myself.”

He added; “I put myself into this position, when I started nobody knew who Asamoah Gyan was. It got to a time they knew it and with the support of my brother who I always mention. He is the key; he is the one behind my success. Sometimes criticism comes and people blame him for being a bad influence but they don’t know what he has done in the background.”

Asamoah Gyan launched his book at Kempinski Hotel in Accra. The well-attended event drew people from all walks of life and across the world.
