Many School Children in Accra Are Not Getting Enough Sleep- Kafui Dey

Robert Kafui Kofi Dey is a Ghanaian Broadcaster, an MC, an author. Over 2 decades he has interviewed over one thousand guests on radio and TV stations in Ghana.

The award-winning broadcaster Kafui Dey tweeted yesterday that; “Many children in Accra are not getting enough sleep. Work patterns of their parents cut their sleep short. Parents have to wake up early to beat traffic so the children also have no option but to wake up early too. As early as 5AM you see children with school bags on streets.”

Any Impact On Parents and Children?

The sad part is, our jobs these days affect many aspects of our lives. The fear of losing our job makes us do things which seems normal to us. After all these less sleeps we don’t go for checkup neither do we take our kids.

Additionally, it’s heartbreaking to notice that most of these kids sleep in the class whilst teaching is ongoing than to be focused. And, immediately after school, they have to either join their parents on the street to help them sell or rush back home to help in the house.

After reading his tweet I began thinking of how best this issue can be resolved to make life much easier for both parents and children.
