“Stop Putting Stones On Gas Cylinders” – GNFS Cautions the Public

The Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, Mrs. Naomi Ofori Adubea has cautioned the public to desist from placing stones on faulty gas cylinders during this festive season.

Speaking to Angel news, Madam Adubea noted that a number of Ghanaians have been putting stones on their faulty gas cylinders instead of discarding them. According to her, this can eventually cause house fires if the practice is not stopped. Meanwhile, she noted that so far, this year's fire outbreak in this festive season has been reduced by 10% compared to 2020, although they anticipated a much significant reduction.

Additionally, the Commander cautioned members of the public to avoid positioning gas cylinders very close to the burner, instead of placing the former outside the kitchen or afar.

“The year is ending and during this period, we all know the weather is dry, and a little thing can spark fire. If we are watchful, nothing will happen to us. Officers of the Ghana National Fire Service are in the marketplaces, schools, workplace educating the public about fire safety.” She noted.

Furthermore, if you are cooking, and you feel tired, stop and rest. When you regain your lost strength, you can continue because you can cause fire outbreak of care of not taken.

Advising the public, Mrs. Adubea also mentioned that before you use the gas tube and cylinder, do some assessments to see if there is no fault with either of them. You can test the gas tube by placing it in foamy water. If bubbles are coming out of any side of the tube, it means there is a leak, she said.
