Teacher Trainees to Be Exempted from Writing Licensure Examination

The Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr. Christian Addai has hinted that plans are far
advanced to exempt Teacher Trainees in the 46 accredited public colleges of Education in Ghana from writing the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

The Registrar of the National Teaching Council disclosed this two days ago when addressing the leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana.

According to Dr. Christian Addai, the reason behind the exemption of teacher trainees was centered on the proposed entrance examination for colleges of Education.

Trainees will be accessed in the field of literacy, numeracy before being enrolled into the college thus need not to write these courses again after completion.

“Teacher trainees will only be accessed on their specialism, in which people who are pursuing Science will be tested and others doing Mathematics will also be tested based on their specialist”.
However, Until the introduction of the Ghana Basic Education Skills Test (GBEST) trained teachers are to prepare for the licensure examination before posting.

It will be recalled that The Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr. Christian Addai said that
prospective trainees interested in gaining admission in government-accredited colleges of education
will be made to write entrance examination before given admission.

The name of the entrance examination to be written is called Ghana Basic Education Skills Test (GBEST). GBEST seeks to evaluate prospective teacher trainees in literacy and numeracy.
