The Idea of Naming a Stadium After Pele in Ghana Has Sparked Controversies and Criticism

The head of the world football governing body, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, has hinted that member associations will be asked to name a stadium in honour of Pele, who died after a battle with illness.

Ghana’s National Sports Authority Boss, Professor Twumasi, has acted on the statement of Gianni Infantino, in which he said, "For everyone who loves the beautiful game, this is the day we never wanted to come. The day we lose Pele, we’re going to ask every country in the world to name one of their football stadiums after Pele."

Moreover, the idea of naming a stadium after Pele has sparked controversies and criticism on social media due to the fact that there are many great legends in Ghana who deserve recognition and honor, and it is unfortunate that they have not received it.

However, many people in Ghana have raised the question: "Please which stadium?" It is clear that there are many Ghanaian players who have made significant contributions to the sport in the country, yet they have not been honored with even a statue, let alone a whole stadium being named after them.
